Shiva. Psy Trance. Cannabis.

Goa is the birthplace of Psychedelic Trance. It emerged in the mid 1960's. Many believe that psychedelic trance has immense spiritual power. It is said that the first hippies who arrived in Goa, brought with them the 'Cannabis culture'. It was during this time, that the first Goa DJs started playing psychedelic rock bands such the Grateful Dead, the Pink Floyd and The Doors. 'It was decade of 1960's when European and Ethiopian cultures first found peace in the foreign land of a Portugese colony , with an upcoming russian mafia to support it. Goa, truly had created ripples all across the globe. With the first world going through massive economic boom in the next three decades from the 60's. It gave generations of individuals who found no harmony in their unnecessary  paced up life. Then in 70's finally the youth broke. Introduced to sound of Sitar and the flower power.
The real truth behind the reason why the 'flower children' smoked weed? or College professors feeding their students LSD? Taking heed to the words of Timothy Leary .Realizing there is no need for a college degree. Is the astonishing fact ,that we can receive more knowledge from Mother Earth herself. Industrialization and modernization are the only factors for disturbing the equilibrium. Hence, Flower became their sign. Peace and Love their message. One thing that is clear to all of us is that, the generation demanded Naturalism and Nature in their Pocket. They were in need for spiritual 'Shanti'. Choked by the silencers of a thousand automobiles, screeching and screaming sound of urban landscape demanding Peace.
'I have had massive spiritual awakenings from the readings, yoga, cannabis and psytrance, a whole new spiritual world has opened up and my view of everything has expanded. It's like I understand the universe, I understand the world, I understand and have experienced nothingness, just for a brief millisecond. And that is the preparation for the next phase.' said Virat Singh, a student of SIES College and an avid psytrance follower.
Psychedelic Trance bands like Shpongle, Buddha Bar and Anjunabeats through their lyrics, have pointed out numerous similarities between Shiva's Tandav and Psychedelic Trance. The Hindu mythology believes that, whenever a devotee offered 'Ganja' to Lord Shiva, it pleased his senses. Lord Shiva and Ganja share a divine relation. Though he maintained his psychological and emotional balance. 'It is a drug for the benefit of all. I don't think there is anything wrong in it' said Ketan Sharma, a Psy Trance follower, living in Pondicherry. Interestingly, the scriptures say that, people who consume the drug on a daily basis are full of happiness. Also, Vedas narrate the story of how Lord Shiva consumed the leaves of the marijuana plants in the heat of the sunlight. It was his favorite diet. He is also known as the 'Lord of Bhang'.
Gradually, Goa witnessed a lot of these psychedelic gatherings. Devotees of Shiva, who believed in the power of psychedelic trance would gather and consume cannabis. However, these gatherings were suppressed by the police. "Atharva Veda, says that 'Bhang' relieves anxiety. The Veda also says that long before the Universe was created, the Almighty obtained spiritual water. Many of these droplets were dropped on the Earth's surface. Marijuana plants surfaced wherever the spiritual water touched the Earth" said Damodar Lal Sharma, a Sanskrit scholar.
Taking a close look at the conventional Yunani medicine, we find that a lot of preparations of cannabis have been used over the years to cure disorders. It hones up the intellect and cures dysentry and sunstroke. 'Weed and Psychedelic Trance is the way of life. This is our real culture. Shiva's energy germinated from his Tandav. Tandav was his trance mode.'
